Christmas Cactus
A dear friend gave me this beautiful Christmas cactus a few years ago when she moved away. I think of her every time I walk out the door and see it on my porch (at the least). :) Well, as you can see, it is blooming again! It really amazes me how it flowers every December - February each year! How does it "know" what time of year it is? So fascinating... Well, if you are interested: the plant is photo-thermoperiodic, which basically means that it blooms when day and night length are approximately equal and the temperature is cooler. Cool, huh? It's the science geek in me, I guess, but I think it's really neat!
I find it very cool that through your hobby (and second profession), you are teaching people science (your first love and profession). You rock! The pic is amazing! Nature really is super cool!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I surely miss that plant and I love that you always post a picture for me. But as much as I miss that plant, I'm glad you have it and it has continued to thrive from your love and care. After all...I miss you much more!
ReplyDeleteApril, you just choked me up. Such sweet words from such a sweet friend! I love and miss you!
